This case study explores Burcombe Plumbing’s branding journey. Daniel’s vision was to establish a strong presence in the plumbing services market. By focusing on a modern and memorable identity, we sought to create a logo and branding elements that would resonate with his target audience.

2. Research & Inspiration

To initiate the design journey, we delved deep into industry trends and conducted comprehensive competitor analyses. This research provided valuable insights and inspiration, establishing a solid foundation for a design process characterised by clarity and uniqueness.

3. Brand Identity

Daniel wanted to try and keep with his original logo as much as possible, not to alienate his current customers, but wanted a more professional and modern look to it. We aimed to create a memorable brand identity that reflected Daniel’s core vision. While we were happy with the original yellow, we decided to use a more vivid shade because it evokes warmth, positivity, excitement, originality and creativity. Nevertheless, we weren’t satisfied with the secondary original colour. So, we opted for a very dark blue to evoke trust and professionalism, complementing the vivid yellow and providing sufficient contrast. 

We need to add accent colours for Daniel’s website that complement his primary brand colours. We then adjusted the colours, tint, hue, shading, and other complementary colours, ensuring all colours complemented each other while providing sufficient contrast. Typography was guided by the need to embody the brand essence and resonate with the target audience and industry while ensuring it was easy to read on the website.

4. Concept Development

Next, we turned our attention to the logo. The icon was the key feature of the old logo, so we didn’t want to deviate from it too much and alienate his current customers. Therefore, we implemented several modifications to enhance the logo’s visual appeal. Nexted, we experimented with multiple options and different fonts for the text, we chose the Gilroy Black font is a versatile, bold, and modern and offers a range of features, such as a geometric contemporary font design and can be used seamlessly in both web design and traditional print applications, making it an excellent choice for modern brands.

Nonetheless, it needed an additional element to strengthen its professional brand identity and stand out from its competitors. Then, we decided to modify the “U” in “Burcombe” to resemble a U-bend—a plumbing fitting.

After presenting the initial design concepts, we actively sought Daniel’s feedback. This collaborative approach, in which we valued his input and incorporated his vision, allowed us to refine the designs. The result was a final logo that truly encapsulated the essence of Burcombe Plumbing’s brand identity, resonating with his current and target audience, and enhancing his brand perception.

We adopted a softer, more luxurious design approach while ensuring it matched the overall aesthetics of competitors.
